Add the song from Edit profile

Profile music is a 30-second song clip that visitors can choose to play from your bio area.

  1. Open your profile in the Instagram app.
  2. Tap Edit profile.
  3. Choose Music under Add to profile.
  4. Search for a song or browse Instagram's suggestions.
  5. Select the 30-second passage and tap Done.

The control is not available on computers. Once the song appears in your bio area, tap its play button from another account or ask someone to check it. Confirm the title, artist, excerpt, and how the line sits beside your bio.

Choose the 30 seconds that introduce you

Start with the job the clip needs to do. A musician might choose a passage that makes the voice, instrument, or current release recognizable. A shop or illustrator may want a mood that supports the work without competing with the bio.

Begin where the musical idea is already clear. A long intro can spend most of the available clip preparing for the part you meant to share. Listen on a phone speaker before saving it.

Make the song agree with the first screen

The song sits beside a username, profile picture, bio, links, and recent posts. It can add a small piece of character, but it cannot repair a vague profile. Read the first screen with the sound off, then play the clip and check whether it adds useful context.

A polished pop profile may use a current release. A personal account may choose a favorite that feels accurate without explaining anything. Both choices work when the clip supports what a visitor already sees.

Check the profile song before leaving it up

  • The song title and artist are the ones you intended.
  • The chosen passage starts at the useful moment.
  • The clip is audible on an ordinary phone speaker.
  • The bio still makes sense for someone who never presses play.
  • The song does not conflict with a current launch, service, or audience.

What to check when Music is missing

First, use the current Instagram app on a phone or tablet. The Help Center says profile music is not available on computers. Look under Edit profile and Add to profile rather than the Reel or Story editor.

Meta also says licensed music access can be restricted for some business accounts, post types, countries, and regions. A song available to one account may be missing from another. Meta's Sound Collection is a commercial-use option for Reels and Stories, but the help page does not present it as a substitute for a profile song.

Do not change account type merely to reach one track. Check what professional tools or business features you would lose before making that decision.

Remove or replace the song when the profile changes

Instagram says the song stays until you remove it. Tap the song on your profile and choose Remove profile song. Replace it when a release cycle ends, the clip no longer suits the bio, or the rights library changes.

Run a short profile audit after the change. If your work depends on layered sound inside video, use the separate multiple audio tracks guide. A profile clip and Reel audio solve different problems.
