Accounts Center guide

Sync Instagram Profile Info Without Losing Track of Your Identity

Accounts Center can make your name, profile picture, username, or avatar match across connected Meta profiles. Sync only the fields that should represent the same public identity. Save the current assets first, because your previous Instagram profile picture is not restored automatically.

Choose each field separately

In Accounts Center, open Profiles, choose a profile, then manage profile-info syncing. Meta lists name, profile picture, username, and avatar. Syncing the name is required before some other fields can match.

The choice affects what people can see and search for on connected apps. A matching identity can reduce confusion when the same person or organization uses both profiles. Distinct projects may need distinct names and pictures.

Keep a distinct creative identity when it helps recognition

An Instagram profile may use a portrait, pen name, or visual style that fits its audience better than the connected Facebook profile. Matching everything can remove a useful cue. Compare how visitors identify the account before switching on sync.

Review the small-circle crop with the profile-picture checklist. A picture can be correct on one app and unclear in another surface.

Treat public-name changes as a real migration

A synced name or username becomes the same across the profiles you select. Meta says people may find you through that shared information and may see related follow or friend suggestions. Check links, printed materials, credits, and collaborator references before changing a familiar identity.

Instagram also notes that a username change may require review for accounts that reach many people, and followers may be notified. Make the change when someone can monitor broken links and questions.

Back up the current identity first

  1. Save the current profile picture and record each username.
  2. List external links and printed materials that use those usernames.
  3. Choose which connected profiles should represent the same identity.
  4. Sync one field, then inspect both public profiles.
  5. Keep the change only when names, pictures, and destinations still make sense.

Meta says your previous Instagram profile picture is not saved when you sync a different picture. Keep your own copy before changing it.

Turn sync off when the profiles have different jobs

You can stop syncing later, but the old Instagram picture does not return by itself. Upload the correct image, check the display name and username, then review the account anonymously.

If you run several Instagram identities, use the multiple-account workflow to keep publishing separate from Accounts Center choices.
