Reels reply guide

Reply to an Instagram Comment With a Reel

On a public Reel, tap Reply below a useful comment and then tap the camera icon. Instagram turns the comment into a sticker on a new Reel. Answer that comment in the opening seconds, demonstrate one idea, and keep the original thread because deleting the source comment or Reel can remove the video reply.

The current reply workflow

Instagram currently allows a new Reel reply to comments people leave on public Reels. Tap Reply below the comment, tap the camera icon, then record a Reel or choose a video from the camera roll. The selected comment appears as a sticker that you can move and recolor before sharing.

The commenter receives a notification. The sticker also carries the commenter's username and profile picture, and viewers can tap through to the comments on the original Reel. Treat the comment as part of the published video rather than a decorative overlay.

Choose a question that deserves a demonstration

Use a Reel reply when movement, scale, sound, or a sequence will answer better than one sentence. A question about where to place a foot on a climbing move can become a close view of that move. A simple opening line can name the problem while the rest of the clip shows the answer.

Skip comments that ask for private account details or need a long exchange. Reply in text when the answer is short. One useful video should solve one visible question, rather than collecting every related tip into the same Reel.

Answer the exact comment before adding context

Put the direct answer in the opening shot or spoken line. If someone asks how a garment moves, show it moving before explaining the collection. If the question is about fit, keep the relevant detail large enough to see and place the sticker away from it.

Extra context can follow after the demonstration: an alternative, one limitation, or the next place to look. Keep a product reply useful on its own. A viewer who did not read the original thread should still understand what the video answers.

Record the reply without burying the comment

  1. Choose one specific comment beneath a public Reel and tap Reply.
  2. Tap the camera icon. Record the answer, choose a clip, or use Green Screen when the original visual needs to stay in view.
  3. Move the comment sticker away from faces, captions, controls, and the detail you are demonstrating.
  4. Open with the answer, then add only the context needed to use it.
  5. Preview with and without sound, check the sticker text at phone size, then share.

Keep the source thread intact

A reply Reel depends on its source. Instagram says that if the original comment is deleted, the reply Reel is deleted too. If the original Reel is deleted, reply Reels created from its comments are also removed. Save your source video outside Instagram if the answer has lasting value.

If the original creator switches the account to private, existing reply Reels remain visible but stop linking back for viewers who do not follow that creator. New Reel replies cannot be made on that private Reel. Review the source before building a longer content series around it.

Use the Instagram comment controls guide to manage who can comment. The Instagram Reels guide covers recording, editing, covers, and publication.
