Instagram Shoppable Reels: Plan Product Links That Fit

A Shoppable Reel should make one product easier to understand in use. Choose the item first, show the decision or task it helps with, and add only the eligible product links that belong to that story. Instagram permits up to 30 items, but the limit is a ceiling rather than a target.

The direct answer

Open the Reel Share screen and look for Add products. You can paste an eligible product URL, including a supported affiliate link, or search for an item in a brand's Meta commerce catalog. Instagram says each Reel can carry up to 30 individual items, not collections. If the control is missing, do not promise a shopping route that the publishing account cannot create.

Start with a demonstration, then choose the product

Scott Christian Sava's visible profile is centered on art, authorship, and making. A useful product Reel could show one drawing decision, the page where it appears, and the finished result. The linked item then answers a question created by the video instead of interrupting it.

Write the Reel in three beats: show the problem or starting point, demonstrate the useful change, then name the exact item. If viewers need a long verbal detour to understand why the product is present, the link probably belongs in another Reel.

Keep the product set as narrow as the task

Marthe's cached garden and harvest posts make practical tasks visible. A Reel about starting seedlings might reasonably link the tray, labels, or one tool used on screen. Adding unrelated garden decor and a season's worth of supplies would turn a focused lesson into a catalog browse.

Use one primary item and add a second only when the viewer needs both to complete the demonstrated task. Instagram's 30-product allowance suits some roundup formats, but it does not make 30 links useful in every Reel.

Check eligibility before filming

  1. Confirm that Add products appears for the publishing account and market.
  2. Open the exact catalog item. Check its title, image, price, availability, and destination.
  3. For affiliate content, confirm that the account is connected to the specific affiliate program on Instagram.
  4. Choose an individual product. Instagram's announcement excludes collections.
  5. Record any disclosure required by Instagram, the brand agreement, and local advertising rules.

Instagram announced the new experience first for the US, Brazil, India, Indonesia, and Thailand, with more commerce markets planned. Treat the control shown to your account as the final availability check.

Review the Reel and the shopping route separately

CheckQuestion
OpeningCan a viewer name the task or result before the product pitch begins?
EvidenceDoes the video show the item in use, including a limitation that affects the decision?
MatchDoes every linked item appear in or directly support the Reel?
DestinationDoes the product page open to the same item, with current details?

Use the Instagram Reels workflow to tighten the video itself. If the Reel uses brand footage or another creator's material, run the original content checklist before publishing.

Sources and freshness

Instagram announced Add products, the 30-item maximum, individual-item requirement, catalog requirement, affiliate support, and initial markets on March 24, 2026. Instagram's Help Center explains that an account must be connected to the specific affiliate program before adding an affiliate product link to a Reel. Both sources and the example profiles were checked October 6, 2026.
