Instagram Bio Links: Choose and Order Them

Instagram supports up to five external profile links, but five equal choices can make the next step harder to see. Put the destination that matches the profile's current promise first, give every link a concrete title, and test the full trip while signed out.

A useful order for profile links

  1. 1. Current priority: the destination that fulfils the promise made by the bio and pinned posts.
  2. 2. Strong evergreen route: the shop, portfolio, services page, newsletter, or resource that remains useful after a campaign ends.
  3. 3. Timely supporting route: an event, release, application, menu, or project with a clear end date.
  4. 4–5. Secondary destinations: include these only when a visitor can tell why each one is there.

The right order changes with the account. The first destination should answer the most likely next question raised by the profile.

Start with the profile's one job

Write the desired action in one sentence: “After seeing this profile, the right visitor should…” A maker may want a visitor to view the current collection. A consultant may want a qualified prospect to understand the service before booking. A photographer may want an editor to open a portfolio.

That sentence chooses the first link. It also reveals links that are present from habit. A dormant podcast, an expired giveaway, and a general homepage may all be legitimate destinations, yet none deserves the first slot when the bio promises something else.

Write titles that describe the destination

Vague titleClearer title
WebsiteShop the autumn tableware collection

LatestRead the September studio notes
Book nowBook a 30-minute portfolio review

Use the title to set an honest expectation. Do not imply a free download when the page requires payment, or call a general contact form a booking page. Short titles scan well, but clarity matters more than shaving off one word.

Match links to the bio and pinned row

Profile conversion breaks when each surface points somewhere different. If the bio promises weekly recipes, the first link should not lead to an old speaking engagement. If a pinned post announces a workshop, its caption and the profile link should name the same workshop and agree on the date.

Instagram says a bio can contain up to 150 characters and remains visible to anyone. Its bio Help Center page is the right place to check the current editing path. Use the Instagram bio examples to rewrite the surrounding copy, then review your pinned posts as part of the same visitor route.

Study the route on real accounts

The Roastagram cards below show real public accounts with first-party cached recent-post thumbnails. Open a card, read the profile analysis, then visit the live Instagram account and ask which single destination would best continue the promise you can see. The live bio and links may have changed since Roastagram cached the post image.

For @listing, compare the live profile promise with the property-focused Roastagram analysis, then decide whether the first link should lead to current listings, a specific property, or an enquiry route. For @celyn.travel, compare the live bio with its cached Roastagram profile and choose between an itinerary, consultation, or destination guide. Both profiles and their cached media were checked September 22, 2026; mutable profile copy and links may change.

Test every link while signed out

  1. Open the profile on a device or browser where you are not signed into the destination.
  2. Tap each Instagram profile link rather than copying the URL from your own records.
  3. Confirm that redirects finish on the intended secure page and do not loop.
  4. Check that the title promised by Instagram appears clearly on the destination.
  5. Complete the important action on a small screen, including forms, checkout, booking, or download.
  6. Remove expired campaigns and record who will review time-sensitive links.

A destination that loads for its owner may still require visitors to sign in, request access, accept a region gate, or cross a broken redirect. Test the visitor's route rather than the page alone.

Native links or a link-in-bio page?

Instagram's current profile editor supports up to five external links without a subscription. Meta's current link-limit guidance and Instagram's current link-order instructions, both checked September 22, 2026, document the limit and reordering controls. Native links suit accounts with a short, stable set of direct destinations.

A separate page can help when an account needs more destinations, grouped resources, campaign organization, or its own visual identity. It also adds another tap and another page that can break. Compare the current options in the link-in-bio tools guide, then choose based on the route visitors need rather than the number of buttons a tool offers.

Use profile mentions only when the relationship helps a visitor understand the account. A mention is not a substitute for a clear external destination, and mutable profile controls should be checked in the current app before relying on them.

A monthly five-minute link audit

  • The first link matches the bio's current promise.
  • Every title names what a visitor will find.
  • No destination is expired, private, misleading, or difficult on mobile.
  • Pinned posts and captions refer to the same current route.
  • Secondary links still earn their place.

Finish with the Instagram profile audit so the display name, picture, bio, grid, captions, links, and privacy settings tell one consistent story.

Instagram bio link questions

How many links can I add to my Instagram bio?

Instagram supports up to five external profile links. Visitors see the first destination most clearly, so order matters.

What should my first Instagram bio link be?

Use the destination that best matches the profile's current promise, such as a shop collection, booking page, portfolio, event page, or newest useful resource.

Do I need a link-in-bio tool?

No. Instagram's native links are enough when a few direct destinations cover the job. A separate page helps when you need more destinations, stronger branding, or campaign organization.

Why does my Instagram bio link work for me but not other people?

Test the link while signed out and on another device. Check the full URL, redirects, mobile layout, login requirements, expired campaigns, and Account Status before replacing the destination.
