Instagram Event Reminders: Set Up a Post People Can Follow
Instagram professional accounts can add a reminder to a feed post for an event at least one hour and no more than three months away. People choose whether to follow it. Instagram then sends notifications before the event and displays the time in each viewer's local time zone.

A reminder gives an event post a clock
A normal feed post can announce a date, but the reader has to remember it. An event reminder adds a bell people can choose to follow. Instagram sends an activity notification 24 hours before, an activity and push notification 15 minutes before, and another activity and push notification at the event time.
The feature does not publish the event for you and does not guarantee attendance. It gives interested viewers a reliable prompt tied to the time you entered. The post still needs to explain what is happening, who it is for, and why this particular date matters.
Name the performance before you design the post
The Capital University Tuba Euphonium Studio has visible ensemble and instrument photos that can identify the performers immediately. An event post still needs a precise title. "Studio recital" or "low brass concert" tells people more than a poster led by the school name alone.
Put the event name, date, start time, venue, and one useful reason to attend in the visible post and caption. Then add the reminder. If the concert moves, edit the reminder details and every supporting post that repeats the old information.
For a broadcast rather than a room, use the separate Instagram Live guide. Live scheduling has its own eligibility and timing rules.
Add a reminder to an Instagram feed post
- 1. Confirm the account. Event reminders are available to professional accounts.
- 2. Create a feed post. Prepare the image or carousel and write the event details.
- 3. Choose Add reminder. Find it below New post in the publishing options.
- 4. Name the event and set the time. Add an optional end time when it helps the visitor plan.
- 5. Check the device time zone. Instagram uses it to set the event, then shows viewers their local equivalent.
- 6. Share the post. Open the live post and confirm the event title and time are correct.
The start must be at least one hour away and no more than three months away. For an event farther out, prepare the campaign now and create the reminder once the date enters the supported window.
Give one event several useful entry points
Dew's piano-led images can carry different parts of one performance story. A rehearsal post can introduce the music. A programme detail can help the right listener decide. A final post can handle the practical date and reminder without repeating the same announcement three times.
Instagram lets a professional account attach the same existing event to additional posts. Reuse the reminder while changing the reason to care: the performer, the piece, the venue, or what the audience will hear. Keep the event title consistent so people recognise that each post points to the same date.
A Story can support the feed post on the day, but scheduled Story copy can become stale when plans change. Review the Instagram Story scheduling guide before preparing that layer.
Do not confuse the reminder with the publish time
The reminder belongs to the event. A scheduled post controls when content appears. They solve different problems. Publish the reminder post early enough for people to see it, then let the selected event time drive the notification sequence.
Instagram's native post scheduler currently lists event reminders among neither its supported formats nor its stated incompatible-feature note. Check the current composer on the account you will use. If Add reminder and Schedule do not work together there, publish the reminder post manually rather than dropping the event control.
Edit or remove an event reminder
Open Options on the published post, choose Edit, then open the event name and time. Change the details or delete the event there. Check any second post that uses the same event and make sure its visible copy still agrees with the reminder.
For cancellations, update the caption and visible artwork as well. Removing a reminder alone can leave an old announcement looking active.
Current Instagram sources
Instagram's event reminder Help Center page, checked October 24, 2026 supplied the professional-account rule, one-hour to three-month window, time-zone behavior, publishing steps, three notification times, event reuse, and editing controls. Instagram's scheduled posts and Reels page supplied the separate native scheduling workflow.
