Add Tagged Posts to Your Instagram Grid

Instagram now lets you place a post you are tagged in on your main profile grid. You can add it from the tag notification in DMs, the post itself, or your Tagged tab. The tile points to the original post, so adding it does not duplicate or delete the original post.

Add a tagged post in three ways

  1. Open the DM notification Instagram sends when someone tags you, then choose Add to grid.
  2. Open the tagged post, use its menu, and choose Add to grid.
  3. Open your profile's Tagged tab, press and hold the post you want, then add it to the main grid.

Instagram began rolling out the control on September 10, 2026. The Help Center says it is available in the mobile apps rather than on computers. If the option is missing, check the current app on your phone before rebuilding a content plan around it.

Use a tagged post to add a chapter, not confusion

A sparse, person-led profile gives every added tile a lot of weight. A tagged photo from a trip, performance, graduation, or shared project can add useful context. A random group photo may leave a stranger less certain about whose profile they opened.

Read the opening nine tiles as one screen. If the tagged post introduces a real part of the account, keep it. If it matters to friends but does not explain the profile, the separate Tagged tab already gives it a home.

This is a presentation choice. The public tile cannot tell you whether it increased follows, visits, or sales. Check those results in your own Instagram Insights if you have access to them.

Judge the cover beside the posts you already have

A tagged post keeps the original creator's visual choices. You cannot assume its crop, text size, or cover was designed for your grid. Preview the result at profile-thumbnail size and check whether the subject survives the crop.

The small tagged marker helps visitors recognize borrowed content, but it does not fix a weak cover. If a face is cut off, a title becomes unreadable, or the tile hides the subject, leave the post in the Tagged tab. Ask the original author about a better collaborative post next time rather than copying their image.

Use the grid reorder guide after adding the post if the opening sequence needs work. Reordering changes placement. It does not change authorship or edit the original post.

Know which account still controls the post

ActionWhat happensWho controls it
Add to gridThe tagged post appears among your main-grid tiles. The original author still owns the post.
Remove from gridThe tile leaves your main grid but can remain in your Tagged tab.You control whether it appears on your grid.
Delete or change the originalYour displayed tile depends on the original post remaining available. The original author controls the source post.

Review the caption and account before adding anything. A flattering photo can still carry a caption, claim, link, or later edit you would not choose for your own profile. Because the grid tile points back to somebody else's post, plan for that person to retain control.

Choose Add to grid, Collab, or repost by the job

Add to grid suits an existing post that already tags you. It gives the post a place on your profile without making a duplicate.

Collab suits work planned and approved by co-authors before publication. Use the Instagram Collab posts guide to agree on ownership, credit, and review.

Repost is a separate Instagram sharing action. The Instagram repost guide explains native credit and why downloading another person's image is the wrong substitute.

Sources and freshness

The three entry points, mobile availability, and related tag controls were checked September 30, 2026 in Instagram's live Help Center. Instagram announced the rollout and demonstrated the control in its September 10, 2026 launch Reel. TechCrunch also documented the rollout date and the fact that the original is not copied in its September 10 report.

Tagged grid post questions

How do I add a tagged post to my Instagram grid?

Open the tag notification in DMs, open the tagged post itself, or press and hold the post in your Tagged tab. Choose Add to grid, then check the result on your profile.

Does adding a tagged post create a copy?

No. Instagram says the original post stays where its author published it. Adding the post to your grid does not duplicate or delete the original.

Can I remove a tagged post from my main grid?

Yes. You can remove it from the main grid without removing it from your separate Tagged tab or deleting the original post.

Is Add to grid the same as an Instagram Collab post?

No. Add to grid works after someone tags you in an existing post. A Collab post is published with invited co-authors and appears on participating profiles after they accept.
